WOW, What a Year!

With 2017 coming to a close, I want to take the opportunity to express my gratitude to each of you for your patronage, love and support as we continue to transition, grow and anticipate what’s to come.

This year brought us the blessings of new marriages and EB squad additions — new workshops and an expanded retail space — collaborations with Shop MondaysI Support the Girls, the Wichita State Dance Team, the Miss Kansas Organization — a growing community amongst each other, fellow local small businesses and clients, whom we consider friends.

EB HIGHLIGHTS FOR 2017:

  • Jessicah and Kadyn celebrate their 1 year anniversary with EB in October and January. Additionally, Jessicah comes on full-time with us in January. Lucky us!
  • We added three new members to our team in 2017: lash artist Becky and receptionists Devon and Rachel
  • Everyday Beaut became a Bella Lash Affiliate School: Juliana teaches classic and volume lash certification courses to certified estheticians and cosmetologists in the region
  • Jessicah and Kadyn became certified in volume lash application through Bella Lash
  • Our expanded retail space allowed for the collaboration with Shop Mondays, a local pop-up shop, permanently nestled into our space
  • New and fun workshops were brought to our multi-purpose space: a wire wrapping workshop led by Bree of ShopDaisyMade, a Self-Love Workshop led by Counselor and mindfulness advocate Kim German, Wichita Doula took us through a Postpartum discussion for new and expecting mothers and Robin Macy of Bartlett Arboretum brought the sought after Chipped China Mosaics workshop to EB
  • We had the pleasure of teaming up with I Support the Girls (an organization that donates bras and menstrual hygiene products to homeless women/women in need),  the Miss Kansas Org and the Wichita State Dance Team as the official lash extension sponsor, and Wichita Moms Blog for their annual Mummies Night Out

WHAT’S TO COME IN 2018:

Our team is growing once more as we bring on a waxing specialist and additional makeup artist for brides, bridesmaids, proms and other special occasion makeup. Maria Vega joins our squad January 1 and will be performing body waxing, makeup applications, facials and chemical peels and lash extensions.

What’s In A Name: Why Everyday Beaut

People here and there ask (and maybe more wonder), what’s in the name?

EB was thought of and born in Dallas originally. Amidst the hustle, bustle and metro lights I found myself trying to find my place, community, niche. After many failed attempts at being someone I wasn’t – I realized I can only be me: an everyday gal.

(Somewhat) normal, quirky, frazzled, sometimes late, multi-tasking, unsure, hard-working, full-hearted, sometimes jaded, optimistic, in pursuit of in-the-present-living, mostly happy, needing a hug kinda gal. Can I get an amen?!

I think back to my first clients, my business-building clients, our current clients: everyday women. Different journeys, steps, walks of life. And thank goodness for that.

Working women, mothers, students, entrepreneurs, widows, hair stylists, nurses, power lifters, doctors, social workers, teachers, Miss Kansas, pageant competitors, foster parents, dog rescuers, real estate agents – everyday women. And some gentleman, here and there.

When you walk through the doors of EB it doesn’t take long to realize we are everyday peeps doing our thing – just like YOU! Accompanied by one heck of an eclectic music selection.

In the event you were an inquiring mind, now ya know! The everyday lassie in us salutes the everyday beaut in you.

xx

A Little Miracle (or two)

When walking into EB you’re bound to see, hear and smell a few things that after a visit or two, become the norm.

Tunes, essential oils and laughter. We love what we do, we have fun and we love the good stuff – oils, products, lashes, makeup, friendship.

A familiar face at EB is Audrey. Her and I’s paths crossed almost a year ago (post high school). I was contemplating moving into a bigger space and not knowing the future, I asked if she wanted to jump on this crazy train doing lashes+makeup. For months, her usual smiling face, killer work ethic and attention to detail has been accompanied by pregnancy. Until NOW!!

Our cookie Audrey finally gave birth (a week late) to baby Nori Rose. All along, they had kept the gender of baby Cotton a secret so finding out it was a little girl was pretty incredible. (Did I mention I was lucky enough to be in the delivery room to witness this little miracle?! An amazing story for a much longer post.)

Audrey is such an intricate part of EB and while we are grateful for her and miss her, we are so happy for her, her family and their newest addition. She will be returning to the shop March 1 – we can’t wait!

xx

Welcome

Hi gals and guys! With EB’s new space opened and nearly complete, I thought what better time to introduce you to and let you in on our story, who we are and what we do.

Upon relocating back to Kansas after a five-year stint in Dallas, EB originated in the Riverside neighborhood of Wichita – making use of a small esthetics room in a hair salon. Unsure of the future, I worked an 8-5 day job in addition to taking clients evenings and weekends. Halfway through my lease I knew I needed to decide whether I was going to pursue EB full time or continue juggling multiple gigs. I stumbled upon a 400 sq ft rental in Clifton Square and took the leap of faith – I quit my job and went for it.

This 400 sq ft bungalow was everything I dreamed of and more: quaint, adorable, comfy, cozy, free smells.

It wasn’t until I was selected to join an instructor training course for lash extensions through Bella Lash that I knew I needed more room for teachings and students.

And now here we are – in 1400 sq ft of pure heaven and comfyness within Clifton Square.

We specialize in lash extensions, clean skincare, handcrafted goods and free smells (come in and smell for yourself!). Recently we added a dear friend and artist to our team, Audrey Cotton. She is newly certified in lash extensions and is a master makeup artist. We are honored and thrilled to have her on our team and to add professional makeup application to our service menu. Check her out: AudreyCottonMUA

In addition to esthetic and makeup services we offer a wide variety of organic, natural, gluten-free, vegan and hand-crafted skin care products – home goods – jewelry.

The journey has been fun, entertaining and full of gratitude. Thank you for your continual love + support. Pop in and say hi!

Seasons

The month of October had me feeling headless, emotionally strung out & eventually seeking self-evaluation. Me, in general, has always had a lot of work to do. I grew up annoyingly on the defense, outspoken & overly sensitive. I love people. I love people hard. Too hard sometimes. Hard in the sense of wanting to shake people lose of their insecurities, doubts & fears; in the sense of already knowing what they’re capable of; in the sense of knowing what the wind will feel like on their face when they decide to fly. If they will only choose to release & fly.

The key word: choose.

We are all given choices. Pastor Groeschel spoke yesterday on The Time is Now. He spoke about how we come onto moments in our life where something is weighing on our heart, possibly a calling, and rather than acting on it we stumble upon opposition.  We possibly choose the “easy wrong” over the “hard right”.

To write is a calling pressed upon my heart. It is the greatest joy for me and yet a discipline as well. It is a discipline because my opposition is T I M E. The easy wrong for me in writing is choosing my cell phone, choosing to sleep the extra hour & not being intentional about designating time.

Time is so sacred. Our choices are equally sacred. The daily choices of whom, what, when, where, how.

I am in a season of intentional sharpening. Daily, I am seeking ways to refine my mind, actions & words; I am looking to point the finger at myself before ever looking around; I am eager to hug people amidst their joys & concerns but rather than wearing the struggles of others allowing God to be God and trusting in the power of prayer versus my own strength, words & actions.

I am in a season of looking at the fall leaves and beyond color, seeing life & transformation. I am in a season of slowing down, absorbing the little things & working on my inner flicker, light & passion.

I am thankful for this season; it is equally inspirational & polishing. It has been a beautiful fall. The winter months will surely uncover its own beauty.
